DO I NEED A PIANO, GUITAR, UKULELE OR DRUMS FOR LESSONS?
An acoustic piano is not necessary for lessons. Many students utilize a keyboard or electric piano. Scroll down for a list of recommended keyboards. An acoustic guitar or ukulele is mandatory for lessons. Students on drums can utilize a drum kit or drum pad.
WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC CAN I LEARN?
Any genre of music that interests you is possible. Nothing is off the table!
Although some classical music is generally necessary for good progress to be made, you are by no means limited to classical. Many students learn pop, jazz, blues, country, and rock – we want our students to love the music they play.
WHEN IS MY CHILD OLD ENOUGH TO START LESSONS?
Some kids are ready to begin piano lessons at age 4, depending on their maturity level and attention span. Feel free to contact us for a free evaluation lesson to see if your child is ready!
HOW DOES PAYMENT WORK?
Credit card payments are processed automatically at the beginning of every month with the credit card on file. This will secure your time on the teacher’s schedule. Monthly tuition covers an average of 4 lessons a month.
Hudson Piano Studio is a direct provider for those utilizing the FES (formerly Gardiner) Scholarship and invoicing occurs monthly.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I PRACTICE?
We recommend practice almost daily with Hudson Piano Studio’s Rule of 5: practice 5 days a week and each assignment 5 times a day.
Young students and beginners: 10-20 minutes a day
Elementary students: 20-30 minutes a day
Intermediate students: 30-45 minutes a day
Advanced students: 45-60 minutes a day
DOES THE STUDIO HOST RECITALS?
Hudson Music Studio hosts a spring recital every year in May, typically the weekend between Mother’s Day and Memorial Day. Students of all ages and levels are encouraged to participate. Our recitals are very laid back and fun. You don’t have to memorize your music unless you choose to. If it’s your first time and you’d feel more comfortable playing a duet with your teacher, that’s fine too! We clap and cheer for everyone and enjoy time together over refreshments!
A Christmas concert is held at a local assisted living facility each year to give back to those who are often forgotten.
WHAT BOOKS DO I NEED AND WHERE DO I GET THEM?
The studio uses a variety of methods to suit various learning styles. Some of the most commonly used series include Wunderkeys, Supersonics, Piano Pronto, Faber’s Piano Adventures, and Piano Safari for piano. Hal Leonard and Mel Bay Method Books are used for guitar. All materials are available on Amazon and links to specific books will be provided by the teacher.
DO YOU HAVE RECOMMENDED KEYBOARDS?
If you are interested in a keyboard, a full-sized (88 keys), weighted keyboard, with a music stand and piano bench is the place to start.
